NOUN and it's USES


NOUN

-          Refers to or name of person, place, thing, idea, animal, action, quality and a point in time. It helps people identify what they are thinking or talking about.

Person –                  Mark, Jean, teacher, boy, vendor
Place -                     school, Asia, country, library,
Thing -                     (Living thing & non – living thing you can see)
                                    Book, car, flower, pencil, jewelry, box
Idea -                       ( Ideas and things that you cannot usually see)
                                                Success, health, joy , anger, fairness, liberty
             Animal -                  dog, lizard, leopard, rabbit, deer, rooster 
           Quality -                   Kindness, beauty, leadership
            Time -                         today, yesterday
              
A.  Uses of Nouns

  1. Subject – one being talked about or the doer of the action

          Example:  Dhess is crying.

  1.  Direct Object receiver of the action, it answers the question                                            who OR what.

             Example :  Mr. Sonny Cortez teaches Natsci.
                                            S                               D.O.

  1. Indirect Object it answers the question whom AND what.

           Example :    The committee sent Rhenz his papers.
                                           S                       I.O.           D.O.

  1. Predicate Nominative follows a form of the be verb
          (is, was, were, been) and repeats or renames
            the subject.

         Example:  The leader of the group is Jolly.

  1. Object of the Preposition – introduced by a
                 preposition

         Example:  Jerrah puts the cellphone beside the cabinet.

  1. Appositive – is a word that renames the noun
                 that it follows and it always  follows a comma.

         Example:   Dr. Lourdes Trajano, dean of the Education

  1. Objective Compliment – It modify the direct object

          Example:        They called the baby  Theresa.
                                                             D.O.   O.C.

  1. Subjective Compliment – noun is placed after the
                  linking verb.

           Example:   Mauricio Domogan is the mayor of Baguio.

  1. Direct Address – addressing a person

          Example:  Prencess, you are required to see the principal.
